Castor Oil Love – A Guide to Gentle Detox & Hormone Support
If there’s one natural remedy I recommend to just about every tired, bloated, or hormone-sensitive client out there, it’s this: castor oil.
This thick, golden oil has been used for centuries in traditional wellness practices to support everything from digestion to skin health. Today, we’re diving into one of my favorite ways to use it: the castor oil liver detox.
🌿 Why Castor Oil?
Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, a unique fatty acid that supports the body’s detox pathways and reduces inflammation. When applied topically, it penetrates deeply into the skin and stimulates circulation, lymphatic flow, and gentle elimination — all without needing to ingest a thing.
For most of us, it’s a gentle way to:
Ease bloating and sluggish digestion
Support liver function and hormonal balance
Calm inflammation and promote detox
Help with PMS, postpartum healing, or general fatigue
The best part? It’s completely noninvasive and can be done in the comfort of your own home.
✨ How to Do an External Liver Detox with Castor Oil
Here’s a simple, step-by-step guide to doing a castor oil pack over your liver:
What You’ll Need:
Organic cold-pressed castor oil. I recommend Queen of the Thrones, which can be purchased from Amazon HERE.
A soft, clean flannel cloth or old T-shirt
A hot water bottle or heating pad. I use an infrared heating pad in my practice with natural jade stones to help my clients absorb the castor oil better.
A towel (for cleaning up afterward)
Step-by-Step:
Prepare Your Space — Find a quiet, cozy place to lie down. I love doing this in the evening as part of my wind-down routine or when I am watching a movie with my kids.
Add Oil to the Cloth — Pour 2 Tablespoons of castor oil onto the cloth.
Apply to Your Abdomen — Place the cloth directly over your liver area (right side, just below your ribcage).
Cover and Heat — Cover the cloth an old towel, then place a heating pad or infrared belt on top.
Relax — Lie back and rest for 30–60 minutes. This is your time — read, pray, meditate, or simply breathe.
Clean Up — Wipe off excess oil with an old towel or mix a little baking soda with warm water to cleanse.
Repeat — For best results, do this 3–4 times a week during detox, PMS, or postpartum recovery. Always listen to your body!
💛 Final Thoughts
Your body works so hard for you. This simple, soothing ritual can be a beautiful way to show it some extra love. Whether you’re supporting your hormones, digestion, or just needing a moment of rest, castor oil has your back — literally.
